2016 INITIATIVE: God's Story, Your Story
"The Best is Yet to Come"
"I URGE YOU TO LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF THE CALLING YOU HAVE RECEIVED" - Eph. 4:1
The Christian life sure is difficult sometimes, isn't it? God asks us to leave behind our selfishness and devote ourselves to Jesus Christ in the service of others. This journey has a clear beginning and an even clearer end, but its path is littered with dangerous obstructions and precarious curves. Thankfully, its destination provides lasting, eternal rewards.
Chances are you have experienced the difficulty of losing your way on the journey. We've all been tempted to stray, to step away from the fundamentals of authentic Christian living toward the more immediate fulfillments we desire for ourselves. But God calls us to a life devoted to studying the Scriptures, to prayer, and most important, to knowing Christ Himself.
2016 Initiative is about walking with God every day. I want to remind you that the goal isn't just reaching our heavenly destination but walking closely with Jesus as we get there. Yes, the"best is yet to come, but it is directly linked with our time spent with God each day.
God told Joshua, "I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses" (Joshua 1:3) As we look into the new year that opens before us, we would like to think that it could be better than the one behind us. That yearning for something better is a gift from God and a promise that the hope can be realized. God wants us to know that "the best is yet to come" for you this year. The key lies in where you look for fulfillment. It must not be by searching within yourself. What we need is a daily connection with God to enable us to discover what is best from His point of view.
2016 Initiative is focusing on God by reading through the Bible this year and letting Him speak to us right where we are in our walk with Him. Implicit in fellowship with God is the promise that the best is yet to be. In Revelations 21:5 we read: "He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." Apparently God never quits making things better because this word comes as the last word in human history. He is the God of eternal renewal.
"I am making all things new." God says. So, no matter where we are in our walk with God He is not finished with us and wants to reveal new truth and insights to us to make us more effective for Him. Yes indeed! "The Best is yet to Come!"
I believe the psalmist understood this when he said:
“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on walking with you.” (Psalms 84:5)
This is my challenge to you for 2016. Let's walk together with God through His book the Bible and seek to discover new truths based on where we are in our walk with Him.
It is my desire that we all "Believe the best is yet to Come". However, it won't just happen. It's one thing to know the truth and another thing to live it. All of us need to ask three questions our ourselves:
What do I believe?
What should I do?
Who am I becoming?
We need to remember that God is still writing our story...His story. You and I are part of the Story of God and we need to expect God's best for us. In order for that to happen, we need to know His story and know it well, because out of His story, will come our story and what we believe.
Knowing what you believe and why really matters. In fact - truth matters. Therefore, in an effort to be all God wants us to be, I am asking you to join me in reading through the Bible this year. It will take discipline, dedication and journaling. why journaling, because we need to write down what God is saying to us and be held accountable in doing it.
Are you willing to take the step, read through the Bible, walk the talk and become all God wants you to be? You see, he next chapter in your life will be what you choose to write as you act on God's word.
