Today's Power verse: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:11-12 (NIV)

You’re going to miss what God is doing in your life if you remain focused on the here-and-now and not what God wants to do in your life now and long term.

When you’re thinking about comfort rather than character, when you’re thinking about your happiness and not your holiness, when you’re thinking about enjoying now instead of preparing for eternity, you’re caught up in short-term thinking, and it will keep you from seeing life clearly. Short-term thinking keeps us from seeing how God is working in our lives. It’s one of the great weaknesses of American culture. It’s hard to think long-term today because everything in our society teaches you to do the opposite. We rob the future to enjoy today. We’re setting up years and years of unpayable debt and frustration to future generations so we can do what we want now…What is this doing to you and saying about your relationship with God? The Bible says, “never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11 – We must remain focused on God and His desire for us right now! Is God getting your left-over time or any time at all? To have zeal for God means He gets our “best” effort and time. We focus entirely on Him…by serving Him. What are you doing for God? A question we each should ask ourselves on a daily basis. When we serve God and focus on the long-term effect it can have on us and others around us, then God will be able use us in dynamic ways and bring great satisfaction to our lives that can be found no where else. Everything else is superficial at best. But, when we focus on God out of our love for Him...guess what? That’s where we will discover true happiness. Where's your focus? Deep down we all know, don't we?
