I came across something interesting awhile ago about worship music.  This particular author was saying that they didn't care for many modern worship songs because so many of them had a focus on ourselves, rather than on God.  I thought that was a little crazy.  I mean, all worship songs focus on God, right?

While I am sure most if not all worship artists have the best intents for their songs, after I became aware of the possibility that all worship songs might not be focused on God, I started noticing it!  On a little side note though, these songs are not bad by any means and have their place in some settings.  I was just convicted though that in the worship services that I prepare, I want to make sure we are singing to glorify Jesus Christ our King and not ourselves.  So what are some of these songs, you ask?

The first one that comes to my mind is the song "I Am Free."  The lyrics are definitely uplifting, the song is upbeat, but think about the lyrics...

I am free to run
I am free to dance
I am free to live for You
I am free

These are all great things, no doubt, but where is the focus?  For me it's just a little too much about "me" and not enough about God.  On the flip side, I think it is important to acknowledge the great things the Lord does in our lives, but when it's time to worship Him and for the focus to be on Him, I desire to sing songs that are all about our King.  So, I don't post this to stir up any controversy or rain on your favorite songs!  I just thought the topic was interesting and wanted to share.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
